My Cinematography Background

I started shooting the moment my grandfather brought  home a camcorder when I was just a kid. Years later, while attending Middle School, I joined the A/V club and would film sporting events and other school activities. After gradutating highschool I studied film theory at Indiana University. I enjoyed the experience but wanted a more hand on approach so I packed up my bags and came to Southern California to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. There I started shooting 35mm slide film and was missioned with telling stories through a series of still images. When then shot SD video, 16mm film,  and HD video. I got a job at the equipment check out, later becoming manager, and learned all the Camera, Grip, and Lighting gear. In my off time between my own directing projects I would help other students with camera department and lighting as well as give the demos on the gear. I graduated from Brooks in December 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Film Production. I have since worked as a Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Gaffer, Key Grip, Best Boy, 1st and 2nd AC, as well as Loader, Data Manager, and Camera PA. I love continually learning about cinematography. I am an avid reader of American Cinematographer magazine and a supporter of Shane Hurlbut ASC's Inner Circle.
