RYAN KAERCHER - THE WRITER/DIRECTOR

Ryan was born on November 15, 1983 two and a-half hours South of Hollandsburg in Evansville, Indiana.

He studied film history and theory at the University of Southern Indiana then continued his studies at the illustrious Indiana University before taking a more hands on approach by transplanting himself to Southern California where he would attend Brooks Institute of Photography. There he found the resources and developed the skills needed to finally bring his cinematic visions to the screen.

After writing and directing numerous short films and crewing on an abundance of others he was voted into the director’s chair for IN THE CATBIRD SEAT a sync-sound 16mm short film noir with a strong female lead that was granted an Official Selection at the 2008 Cannes Short Film Corner.

He went on to write, produce, and direct BAD CALL a short psychological thriller about a young Iraq War veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. BAD CALL was an Official Selection at the 2010 Indie Spirit FF, LA Film Weekend in Beverly Hills, and was featured at the Museum of Ventura County by the Ventura Film Society.

In 2012 Ryan wrote, produced, and directed a short film for the 48 Hour Film Competition, Los Angeles. THE TIME was nominated for 8 out of the 12 awards and went on to win 6 including Best Director and Runner Up Best Picture.

Ryan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Feature Film Production from Brooks Institute in December of 2008 and has been actively working in the film industry since. In addition to Writer/Producer/Director he holds professional credits as 2nd Unit Director, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Production Designer, Assistant Director, Key Grip, Gaffer, and Editor.

Ryan wrote the screenplay for Hollandsburg after going on location, conducting first person interviews, and scouring through hundreds of pages of research. This process revealed many parallels with his personal life experience that helped him better understand the characters, setting, and events. While Ryan was able to steer clear of any serious trouble he grew up much like both the Spencer boys and their assailants giving him the life experience to bring this story of raw human nature to the world.

He currently resides in Ventura, California.
